Man’s search for meaning by Viktor E. Frankl
I read “Man’s search for meaning” a few years ago and I come back to this title every time life shows its sharp edges. It reminds me that, no matter what happens, we always, always have a choice.
The author identifies what makes living valuable when there is nothing left to hang on to. His experiences in four different camps, including Auschwitz, have lead him to uncover a unique and profound way of finding meaning in life:
“Forces beyond your control can take away everything you possess except one thing, your freedom to choose how you will respond to the situation. You cannot control what happens to you in life, but you can always control what you feel and do about what happens to you.”
It is a great book to give as a gift and it provides a fresh perspective about what is purposeful and relevant throughout our existence.
